Abstract: RANSOMWARE: YOUR MONEY OR YOUR DATA
Local security expert, Carl Ceillam of The Chain, will share some of his recent experiences of helping organisations in the Channel Islands respond to ransomware attacks.
The talk will cover:
What ransomware is, and how it gets in
How to recognise and respond to an attack
Strategies for preventing and minimising the effects of an attack
Carl will also include his analysis of an actual intrusion, illustrating how the malware infiltrates and systematically destroys data throughout an organisation’s IT infrastructure.
Biography: Carl Ceillam
Carl is a local computer security expert, and runs his own IT security and forensic investigation business, The Chain Limited.
He has over 15 years’ experience in information security, primarily working as a security consultant in professional services. His main disciplines are computer forensics, penetration testing and IT audit.
Presentation time: Tea, coffee, drinks and networking from 12:00 with the first talk starting shorty after 12:15 and the second talk shortly after 13:15.

Biography: David Evans
David joined BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2006. He is Director for Policy and Community. After a physics degree at the University of Southampton, David started his career in IT, then moved into a variety of marketing, communications and policy roles.
He has worked in a range of organisations from technology start-ups to global technology firm Intel Corporation. David’s background covers science and technology, marketing and communications, public policy and politics. In addition to being a professional member of BCS, he is also a member at the Institute of Directors.
